We've got babies!!!

I may have told some of you that James' mom had bred two of her mares to german Hanoverian stallions. And just when they were about two weeks away from their due dates, Jill went to New Zealand to do some judging at a horse show. But thankfully, the mares decided not to foal while she was away and so i was spared the task of taking blood samples and making sure the foals where in good health!

However, as soon as Jill got back they decided that they were ready and in the same night 6 hours apart had their babies!

Below is the first foal that was born, a little black colt. His mom, rubina had quite a struggle giving birth and the foal was too exhausted to stand once he finally came out. So Jill had to help him along and support him so that he could nurse as quickly as possible. He was born a week early, but was so big that he couldn't have lasted much longer in the womb. Unfortunatly due to his size, his tendons are tight and therefore he can not straighten his legs all the way. However, it doesn't seem to bother him in the least bit as he is very rambunctious.

He also still has a bit of a beard, which is due to being born a week early.

Rubina, proud new mom and her little black baby boy.

These photos were taken appx 4 hours after birth.

As i mentioned, both foals were born in the same night. Below is Maitresse with her new filly. Just an hour or so old and already standing. Look at those incredibly long legs!!
