AFL Grand Final

Although AFL is strictly considered a mans sport, and James really didn't want to bring me to the game in the first place (the bastard) He changed his mind after i made my own plans to go watch it in a pub with Neralee and a few of her friends. Of course James couldn't bare the thought of me out in that big scary world by myself, haha, so he magically came up with a ticket for me to the game. James is part of some hoity toity members only club and had to sit in a certain section of the stadium which left me sitting with Bo.

Anyways, so this was my second live AFL game since ive been here and both times the teams playing were St. Kilda and Geelong.

We started the day off with a wonderful brunch in a local restaurant and then walked over to the stadium to watch the game. First stop was to meet up with Mick and Sheryn at the hotel across the way for a pre game party. Then we headed over and split up to our respective seats. Oh and by the way, there are no Metal detecters here! How weird is that!

A bit of history about Bo. His sister Lauren is Gary Ablett's (Geelong's star player) Girlfriend. SO you can imagine how nervous Bo was about the game. Beers Beers and more Beers to calm those nerves.

Honestly i think Bo was a bit bummed to be sitting with me since i think he thought he was going to have to explain stuff to me while the game was going on. But there i was yelling and screaming and jumping up and down when Geelong scored. Haha i think he was pleasantly surprised!! The game was an extremely tight game and by half time the St. Kilda saints were up by 2 goals and then in the last 10 minutes of the 4th quarter Geelong managed to score and keep posession of the ball to win! YAY but let me tell you, both Bo and I were on the edge of our seats the entire time!!! What a relief it was to get the win!!!

GEELONG VICTORY!

After the game, Bo and I tried to head down to the locker room area but there were so many people down there that we abandoned that idea and headed to James' members only club, only problem was Bo is a member and im not!
Thankfully we ran into another Geelong players (Tom Hawkins) sister who had her dad Jack Hawkins' pass on her. I was told to pretend that i was Jackie Hawkins but that they messed up the name on the pass....OK....i can handle that. So as we go through the gates at the members only section the guy stops me and is like what youre jack hawkins and i was like no im Jackie Hawkins...and he goes yeah i didn't think so, Jack is a lot bigger than you are. I obviously have no idea who Jack Hawkins is at the point and am later informed that he is infact a football legend! haha there was no way anyone would have ever taken me seriously on that one since all Aussies know who Jack Hawkins really is....but regardless they let it slide and we were in! That would NEVER happen in the States!

After hanging out at the stadium socializing for a while we headed off to the Geelong Afterparty cocktail party. So not the afterparty i expected for the most popular sport in Australia. It was like a school function! Amazing how different Sports is here than in the states! America wouldve had famous singers and a huge blow out party. Australia had a DJ. Interesting.

At the Geelong Afterparty with Nick, Gary Ablett (Star player) (Second from Left), guy i dont know, Sam Brown, Bo Philips and James

After this party, the boys dragged me to another bar and we had to walk there...probably 2 miles
(felt like 10 thanks to my heels) because we couldnt get a cab! I was absolutely MISERABLE by that point and wanted desperately to go home. Thankfully i finally got through to James and got to go home. :) What a long and exciting day!!
